Sodium bicarbonate can be directly used as a raw material in the pharmaceutical industry to treat excessive stomach acid. It can also be used in film production, tanning, mineral processing, smelting, metal heat treatment, as well as in the fiber and rubber industries. Simultaneously used as a detergent for wool and for agricultural seed soaking.

Often formulated with ammonium bicarbonate as a leavening agent for biscuits and pastries. The addition amount in wheat flour is 20g/kg. A foaming agent that can be used to prepare solid refreshing beverages with citric acid, tartaric acid, etc. (producing CO ₂). As a harmless weak alkaline agent, adding about 0.1% to 0.2% when washing vegetables can stabilize the green color.

When used alone, it becomes strongly alkaline due to thermal decomposition, and when used for bread, it will turn yellow and destroy the vitamins in wheat. It is best to use it in combination with acidic substances such as calcium hydrogen phosphate. It can also be used for food blanching and removing astringency. Because it can increase the pH value, it can improve the water holding capacity of proteins, promote softening of food tissue cells, and facilitate the dissolution of astringent ingredients. It has a deodorizing effect on goat milk (dosage 10-20mg/kg). As an acidity regulator and chemical leavening agent, it can be used in various foods that require the addition of leavening agents according to Chinese regulations, and can be used in moderation according to production needs.

Used as a flux for casting steel ingots in the metallurgical industry. Used as a molding aid for cast steel (sand casting) sand molds in the mechanical industry. Used in the printing and dyeing industry as a fixing agent, acid-base buffering agent, and post-treatment agent for fabric dyeing and finishing. Adding baking soda during dyeing can prevent yarn from producing color spots. The pharmaceutical industry uses it as a raw material for acid making agents.
